Privacy policy

Statement Insights reads your statements on your device and never sends them anywhere. This page explains exactly what that means — and you can edit any section to match how you describe the app to your users.

Data we collect

Statement Insights is designed to collect as little as possible. We do not collect your statements, transactions, balances or any financial data. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google solely to identify your account. Your app preferences — category budgets, reset/rollover choices and recurring-payment edits — are saved to your account so they can sync across your devices. When you are signed in, we also record when you sign in or open the app, along with your device type (for example "Android · Chrome") and your country, worked out from your connection. We use this only to understand how the app is used and to keep accounts secure. We never record your exact location, your IP address or anything from your statements. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics that profile you.

How statements are processed

Every statement you open — PDF, Excel, CSV or screenshot — is read and analysed entirely on your device, in your browser. PDF and spreadsheet text is extracted directly; screenshots are read with conventional OCR (optical character recognition), not AI. Categorisation follows simple keyword rules that run locally. Your statement contents are never uploaded to our servers or any third party for analysis. The OCR scanner and fonts may download resources from the internet the first time they are used, but your data is not sent with those requests.

Storage and retention

Statements and the reports built from them live only in your browser's memory for the current session and are discarded when you reload or leave the app — they are never written to disk or a server. Your budgets and recurring-payment preferences are stored on your device, and if you sign in, a copy is kept in our secure cloud database so it can sync to your other devices; this copy is deleted when you delete your account. Exported PDF and CSV reports are generated on your device and saved only where you choose to save them.
